Joseph Flory, missionary to Russia, was at a missions conference recently and received this list of how to make household cleaning supplies. He thought it would be a great idea to share (and so did I). We have been gradually switching to more natural cleaning supplies ourselves. Our favorite right now is using vinegar diluted with water for cleaning just about anything. If you are wanting to save money and get away from chemical cleaners but don’t know where to start, this list will be of a help. Also, if you come across any other helpful resources, like Bro. Solavei – Unlimited minutes, texts, and data for $49/mo.

If you are going to be on deputation or furlough, you may want to consider this new cell phone service with Solavei. I just heard of it today and thought I’d pass on the info. There is also the option of making money by having overs sign up through you. Since I am overseas, I am not using their network, thus not getting any income from this post. If you are paying more than $49 for your cell phone bill, this may be a good option for you. Check out the coverage area (which is important for missionaries traveling all over the country).

During difficult economic times, it is inevitable for missionaries to feel the tight times, too. Whether it is loss of support or inflation of costs on the field, these types of challenges will and do come. Currently, the reality of sacrifice among believers for missionaries has become more evident. Instead of giving up luxury items in order to supply the need, some people have been giving up part of their necessities, such as food. With these sacrifices in mind, the missionary should also “bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ” (Gal. 6:2). Here are some practical considerations before buying tickets for an emergency furlough.

Saving for the Field

When people hear the word “missionary,” the words “poor” or “needy” usually come to mind. Being a missionary does require sacrifice, but what do you do on deputation when the love offerings and monthly support start piling up? Go on a cruise? Hopefully not. If you are thinking ahead, you’ll know exactly what to do….SAVE!
