If you are even considering mission work, you are a minority. The Bible clearly shows the heart that God has for this lost world and His desire for all people to come to repentance (II Peter 3:9, I Timothy 2:4). Why should this not also become our heart’s desire?

Whether staying in your own country or leaving as a foreign missionary, every believer is to be involved with evangelizing the lost and fulfilling the Great Commission. The question is not “Am I to be involved with missions?” but “Where and how much am I to be involved in missions?”

First seek to be completely yielded to God and do what you know you are supposed to do today. This is what it means to “delight thyself also in the LORD” (Psalm 37:4). “Delight” means to take complete joy in the LORD and be pliable, like clay, to let Him shape you as He desires.

Secondly, whatever He does direct you towards and place in your heart to do for Him (Psalm 37:4), do not be afraid to take the next step. Commit the accomplishment of the task to His care and enablement (Psalm 37:5).

Thirdly, patiently rest in the Lord and wait for Him to place you where He wants in His time (Psalm 37:7). Be busy serving him now (Acts 13:2), but let God direct how and when He sees fit (Proverbs 16:9). If God seems to be directing you towards full-time missionary work, praise the Lord! Stay faithful today to see what God will do through you tomorrow.
